Postal Music

Listen as to this incredible recording of Ghanaian postal workers using the rhythm of cancelling stamps combined with whistling a traditional hymn.

Postal Office Music from The James Koetting Ghana Field Recordings Collection at Brown University.

"This is the last track of Koetting's recording of postal workers cancelling stamps at the University of Ghana post office. The track reflects the close connection between work and music making in Ghana as the postal workers whistle a traditional hymn over the rhythms of their stamping. Koetting reported this tune was composed by the post office workers in his notes, but the tune is actually a traditional song of the Ga people of the Greater Accra Region. The song is sometimes performed as part of Kpanlogo music."
